Achieving DIN 6 Precision for Small-Diameter Gear Shafts: Our Proven Process

Precision is everything for small-to-medium gears. A deviation of just a few microns can lead to noise, excessive vibration, or premature failure.

At RJ Factory, we have spent 13 years refining our manufacturing process for components within the 150mm diameter and 300mm length range. Here is how we consistently achieve DIN 6 precision standards:

1. Material Integrity

We primarily utilize 20CrMnTi. We select this grade for its superior hardenability, which ensures predictable, reliable results during heat treatment—eliminating variability in the finished component.

2. Strategic Gear Hobbing

Prior to heat treatment, we perform rough hobbing, leaving a 0.15mm grinding allowance. This deliberate margin allows us to eliminate thermal deformation during the subsequent grinding stage.

3. Heat Treatment Control

We apply a 920°C carburizing and quenching process. To maximize structural stability, our specialized tooling supports the shaft every 100mm, effectively minimizing bending.

  • Result: Post-heat treatment runout is strictly controlled within 0.05mm.

4. Precision Grinding

This is the cornerstone of achieving DIN 6 accuracy. We grind the tooth profile and bearing journals in a single setup.

  • Result: Concentricity is maintained within 0.02mm.

5. 100% Quality Assurance

Precision is not left to chance. Every critical dimension is verified, every gear is measured, and every batch is delivered with a comprehensive inspection report.

The RJ Factory Advantage

The outcome? Gears that offer superior fit, whisper-quiet operation, and extended service life.
